UPDATE! Justice Reinvestment Act Passed (2012-05-02)
No need to contact your legislators - the Justice Reinvestment Act (HB 1525) is on its way to the Governor!
In a rare procedural move, even though the bill had already reached the point in the process at which generally no further amendments are allowed, the House today adopted a House Perfecting Amendment. The rules provide for this to correct a truly typographical error when a bill is otherwise ready for final passage. Some of the references in the bill to the section numbers of state statute being changed were misprinted, and that is the change that was needed.
Once the House took care of that, the bill had to go back to the Senate so that chamber could also sign off on the the fix of the section numbers. Then a final roll call resulted in the bill being truly agreed and finally passed.
Once the bill formally reaches the Governor's desk (which might take a couple of days), we will call upon you to contact his office about signing the bill.
