Johnson Hall Dedicated at UMKC

MASW was well represented at the dedication of the new Herman and Dorothy Johnson Residence Hall on the campus of the University of Missouri - Kansas City, held Saturday morning, October 3, 2009.

UMKC Chancellor Leo Morton presided.  Tara Johnson, who heads the foundation and manages the business affairs of her late parents, was of course among the speakers; she has gone out of her way to ensure than MASW is invited to participate in events honoring her parents, who provided leadership for our organization for many years.

Mary Kay McPhee, a preeminent figure in the Kansas City philanthropic community, and longtime friend and colleague of the Johnsons, also spoke at the ceremony.  She served on the MASW Board of Directors when, as President of MASW, Herman Johnson was instrumental in saving the association from financial ruin.

Executive Director Bob Quinn formally represented MASW at the dedication.  Sharon Cheers, former First Vice President of the MASW Board, was among the other MASW-connected attendees.

Since 2004 MASW has presented the Herman and Dorothy Johnson Local Advocate Award; nominations can still be made through the first full week in October.
